Consistently cultivate spaces rooted in celebration, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building with and for BIPOC folx who identify with the LGBTQIA2S+ communities
WHAT WE DO
The SpaceMakers Society, Inc. is dedicated to creating environments that prioritize celebration, knowledge-sharing, and capacity-building specifically for BIPOC individuals who identify with LGBTQIA+ communities, affectionately known as our “Fam.” We accomplish this through a range of thoughtfully organized events that honor the lived experiences and intersectional identities of our community members. Our mission is to center joy, foster belonging, and promote agency, allowing individuals within our Fam to thrive and support one another.
Feel It, Speak It
The “if you can Feel it, you can Speak it” Open Mic Movement (FiSi) is the longest running open mic space dedicated to the queer BIPOC communities across the Greater Boston area. Underscoring the importance of third spaces, FiSi has served as a critical space for artistic expression, network strengthening, and collective belonging.
Womxn of Color Week(end)
Womxn of Color Weekend is a 5-day Pride gathering that unapologetically centers womxn of color, trans-, nonbinary, and genderfluid people of color, and warmly welcomes our accomplices. Through a series of workshops, shows, shared meals, parties and more, folx are invited to be elevated, strengthened, educated, and celebrated!
MisFits Meals
Acknowledging that the holiday season can be isolating and emotionally challenging - particularly for folx in the LGBTQIA2+ communities, the MisFits Meals are free and open to anyone who wants to come share a homecooked meal. Meals are provided for Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Brunch.
WHO WE ARE
“Many hands make light work” Ensuring that you’re creating meaningful experiences and impactful spaces for folks requires extensive energy and deep dedication from many people, and we are immensely grateful to everyone - past and present - who has contributed to the success of our programs through their time and talents.

WHAT WE’VE DONE
Alongside our longest running programs, we’ve had the opportunity to dream up a few other vibrant things!
EN-ER-GY
Over its 10-year run, EN-ER-GY was an annual celebration of Greater Boston’s eclectic art scene. Each production showcased 10-12 artists from varying genres of art and expression together for one night of entertainment and delight, with proceeds benefitting a local organization of the audience’s choosing.
SpokenWord Poetry Flashmob
Leaning into the joy of spontaneity and embodying the idea of “meeting people where they are”, the SpokenWord Poetry Flashmob was a series of pop-up poetry performances in public, outdoor spaces across Boston and surrounding cities.
We outside
Beyond our scheduled events, our team produces workshops, performances and other opportunities to be in community - be sure to follow us on social media to learn about these one-off events, or reach out if you’d like to collaborate!
